Shop Assistants – Volunteer
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Charity Centre Manager, the Shop Assistant’s role is to provide assistance and excellent service to all customers of Horsham Matters. The position is available for Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays.
Core Duties
- Providing assistance and advice to any customers requiring help
- Keeping the shop and displays clean and tidy at all times
- Assisting in changing displays of shop stock
- Ensuring all fire exits and escape routes are kept free from obstruction
- Being vigilant at all times and to help minimise stock loss
Additional Duties
- Developing a good knowledge of the Charity Centre and what types of goods are available
- Informing the public about the work of Horsham Matters
- Working as part of a team with the other members of the Charity Centre
General
- Ensuring any issues concerning customer care are reported to the Shop Manager
- Adhering to the current Horsham Matters standards of presentation for dress
- Ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are effectively carried out and reporting any concerns to the Warehouse Manager

Till Operator – Volunteer
Reporting to the Charity Centre Manager, the Till Operator’s role is to be responsible for the till, taking payment for all purchases and cashing up at the end of the day.
- Being responsible for the safety of the till at all times whilst on duty
- Operating the till and accurately handling cash, cheques and credit/debit card transactions
- Checking that bank notes used in payment are genuine
- Following cashing up procedures
- Providing assistance and advice to any customers requiring help
Experience
Previous experience of operating a Till, ideally touch screen, is essential.

PAT Tester- Volunteer
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the PAT Tester’s role is to help with the testing of electrical appliances and making sure they are meet the required standards.
Core Duties
- Testing of electrical items and passing or failing them
- Maintaining the testing environment in a clean, tidy and orderly fashion
- Ensuring all fire exits and escape routes are kept free from obstruction
- Ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are effectively carried out and reporting any concerns to the Warehouse Manager
- Being vigilant at all times to help minimise stock loss
- Ensuring that all those donating goods to Horsham Matters are dealt with courteously and efficiently
- Working as part of a team with the other members of the Charity Centre
Additional Duties
- Developing a good knowledge of the Charity Centre requirements and availability of stock
- Adhere to the security and Health and Safety procedures
- Adhere to the Horsham Matter’s Code of Practice
- Being vigilant to help minimise stock loss
- Working as part of the Logistics’ team
Experience
- The job requires a good deal of common sense
- the job is physically demanding
- Experience of PAT testing is essential
Skills
- Able to work under own initiative, but act as a team player
- PAT testing
The position will require a minimum of one morning or afternoon a week.
Warehouse Assistants – Volunteer
Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the Warehouse Assistant’s role is to help with the smooth running of the warehouse, deliveries and collections on a day to day basis.
- Receiving donations, unpacking, sorting and re-shelving or storing stock
- Maintaining the warehouse environment in a clean, tidy fashion
- Ensuring all fire exits and escape routes are kept free from obstruction
- Ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are effectively carried out and reporting any concerns to the Warehouse Manager
- Being vigilant at all times to help minimise stock loss
- Ensuring that all those donating goods to Horsham Matters are dealt with courteously and efficiently
- Working as part of a team with the other members of the Charity Centre

Warehouse Sorters – Volunteer
Reporting to the Logistics Manager the Sorter’s role is to sort incoming donations into appropriate categories at our busy warehouse. The Sorter will also provide help and support for the warehouse on a day to day basis
- Assist the Donations Supervisor and Warehouse staff with incoming donations
- Portraying a professional, cheerful and helpful image at all times
- Sort the incoming donations into various categories and store accordingly
- Helping maintain the shop and warehouse environment in a clean tidy fashion
- Ensuring all fire exits and escape routes are kept free from obstruction
Whilst no previous experience is needed, working in the Warehouse can be physically demanding and requires a great deal of common sense.
